
CAS dominates first MUSIKA
Posted by: sysadmin | Date posted: June 23, 2016The choral theater group of the College of Arts& Sciences bested five others in the MUSIKA Competition, the culminating event in the 2nd NVSU National Arts Month Celebration at University gymnasium on February 26, 2016.
The team also won awards back to back for artfully melding a cappella chanting and singing with complex contemporary dance routines. Esther Naguit took home the Best Performer Award for playing “Mara.” The group also bagged Best Choreography and Best in Creativity. Naguit said that this competition developed their talents. Dawn Peter Tubay, another performer, said that the recognition inspired them to join future acting competitions.
The group of 14 performed their original script about “Mara,” who comes of age as she encounters many trials besetting the NVSU student nowadays. They wrote the script and composed original lyric songs based on the theme, “Bayang pinagkaitan ng katauhan: NVSian, handa ka na ba sa katotohanan?”
"Through this competition, we've found new friends and shared our talents to the crowd through acting, singing and dancing,” said Edison Lopez, one of the narrators. Coach Ms. Mikara Dulay was happy and proud. She said that the students’ skills, talents and perseverance led CAS to top.
Meanwhile, the College of Engineering and the College of Teacher Education were declared the 2nd and 3rd placers, respectively.
MUSIKA is the first choral theater competition staged in the University. The Faculty of Social Sciences sponsored the event. It was part of the week-long celebration of the National Arts Month launched by the NVSU Cultural Affairs Office.#Rosalyn Bulusan
