The College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Graduate School (GS) of the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) completed a comprehensive seminar-workshop on effective syllabi development on October 21, 2025 at the Math Laboratory, CAS Building.

The event was spearheaded by Graduate School Program Chairperson Dr. Lany D. Dullas and was joined in by direct and affiliate GS faculty members who gained insights about crafting well-structured and outcome-based syllabi.

Dr. Julius S. Valderama, director of the Mathematical Modeling and Statistical Center, delivered the opening remarks and underscored the importance of structured course plans in achieving quality education.

Dr. Lori Shayne A. Busa, dean of CAS, encouraged the participants to adopt innovative teaching strategies and align their syllabi with industry needs and the evolving demands of higher education.

Meanwhile, Dr. Merlie M. Binay-an, the college coordinator for Instruction and Curriculum Development (ICD), discussed the main objectives of the workshop, giving a clear direction essential to the process.

A key segment of the seminar was the lecture on syllabus creation which was delivered by Dr. Jane D. Navalta, university director for ICD. She outlined the critical elements of an effective syllabus and shared some best practices for achieving clarity in instructional goals.

Complementing her session, Assistant Professor Elson Boie B. Tumaneng from the College of Teacher Education (CTE) introduced standardized syllabus templates to guide faculty in the revision process. Following the lectures, an open forum allowed participants to take part in discussions, clarify doubts, and exchange insights.

After a brief lunch break, the faculty delved into the hands-on workshop, where they applied the knowledge gained from the lectures to revise and finalize their syllabi with expert guidance. The outputs were then presented for critiquing, constructive feedback, and collaboration among peers.

The session concluded with selected faculty members sharing their impressions of the workshop and expressing appreciation for the opportunity to refine their teaching tools.

According to Dr. Dullas, the seminar-workshop marks an essential step toward ensuring that CAS GS programs remain responsive to the needs of students and communities.

This initiative aligns with the commitment of the University to high educational standards, to an environment of continuous professional development, and to its values and mission.
