The Nueva Vizcaya State University hosted the Qualifying Stage of the 27th Philippine Mathematical Olympiad (PMO) on November 22, 2024, on the 2nd Floor of the University Library Building.

Through the combined initiatives of the College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Department of Mathematics and Statistics and the Mathematical Modeling and Statistics Center (MMSC), under the leadership of Dr. Julius S. Valderama, the university has been designated as an official School Testing Center (Qualifying Stage) for PMO student-aspirants in the province of Nueva Vizcaya.

This year’s qualifying stage was participated in by a total of 28 student-aspirants from four schools: Bintawan National High School (BNHS), Saint Mary’s University (SMU), Nueva Vizcaya General Comprehensive High School (NVGCHS), and Murong National High School (MNHS).

The school representatives and coaches were also in attendance to show full support for their respective students. Despite the modest turnout this year, the organizers remain optimistic about the event’s growth in the coming years.

The top-performing students from this stage will advance to the Area Stage, bringing them closer to representing Region 2 in the national finals.

The PMO, the country’s premier mathematics competition, aims to inspire and challenge young minds in the field of mathematics. By becoming a partner in this endeavor, NVSU bolsters its steadfast pursuit of scholastic distinction.
