In observance of the 35th National Statistics Month, the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU) College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) Bayombong Campus spearheaded a seminar on digital transformation in data and statistics on October 30, 2024 at the Dumlao Farmers’ Training Center (DFTC).

The event amassed approximately 300 students to engage with timely and relevant topics that aligned with this year’s theme, “Advancing Data and Statistics through Digital Transformation: A Road to an Empowered Nation.”

Organized by the CAS Department of Mathematics and Statistics, led by Associate Professor Richard Taclay, and facilitated by the NVSU Mathematics Club, the seminar focused on lectures presenting perspectives on data’s role in various fields  from four Master of Science in Teaching (MST) Mathematics students.

Mr. Mark Joshua M. Bricenio kicked off with a session on “Data Management” where he discussed the essentials of organizing and interpreting large data sets. Following him, Mr. Joey M. Cortez shed light on “Geometric Design” by emphasizing the practical applications of geometry in real-world projects.

Adding to the depth of the discussions, Mr. Jofrey Camates introduced attendees to the fundamentals of “Logic” which is a critical skill in problem-solving and data interpretation, while Ms. Gmelina dela Peña rounded out the program with her lecture on the “Mathematics of Finance” which offered understandings into financial modeling and analysis.

The seminar was part of a broader Statistics Month celebration that began on October 17 and included a lineup of competitive activities open to all General Education (GE) Mathematics students.

Highlights of these contests included a GE Math Quiz Bee, Digital Poster-Making Contest, TikTok Statistics Challenge, and Infographics Competition, each designed to encourage creativity and statistical awareness among students.
