Young Math Wizards Gather at the 6th NVSU Math Fest

The highly anticipated 6th NVSU Mathematics Festival convened young learners from various elementary and secondary schools in Nueva Vizcaya to celebrate mathematical prowess, May 16-17, 2023.

A total of 152 elementary pupils, 114 junior high school students, and 105 senior high students flocked at the event to compete in the Math Maze, Manipulatives activities, Math Amazing Race, and Mathematics Quiz Bee (Elementary, Junior High School, and Senior High School editions). 

During the opening program, Dr. Wilfredo A. Dumale, Jr., NVSU President, warmly welcomed the young learners to NVSU Bayombong, expressing his hope for an enjoyable and enlightening mathematical experience. Dr. Nimfa Norie Aquino, representing Dr. Orlando E. Manuel, the Schools Division Superintendent of DepEd Nueva Vizcaya, emphasized the enjoyment of mathematics and urged attendees to embrace its symbols in their lives. Meanwhile, Mr. Jay-ar C. Castriciones, Chair of the Mathematics and Statistics Department, delivered the opening remarks on behalf of Dr. Lori Shayne Busa who was on official leave at that time.

The two-day event, which received the approval of the University President and the Schools Division Superintendent of DepED-Nueva Vizcaya, was organized and facilitated by the faculty members of the Mathematics and Statistics Department, in collaboration with Bachelor of Science in Mathematics students, partner organizations, college student councils, and the Varsity Courier.

The festival themed "Conquering the Pandemic in Math Amazing Way" provided a platform for young learners to showcase their mathematical abilities, fostered camaraderie among participants, and promoted the joy of mathematics. With enthusiastic participation and a vibrant atmosphere, the event left a lasting impact on all attendees, reinforcing the importance of mathematics education and its practical applications.
